A New Traffic Light Is Up In Windham, But It Won’t Be Turned On For a While

After multiple accidents at the intersection of Route 202 and Falmouth Road in Windham, a traffic light has finally be installed, but it won't be functional over a month.

The Maine DOT started the installation of the new traffic light in October and since it was completed it has remained covered with the original flashing yellow and red lights still functioning. People in Windham have been wondering what the hold up is, since this intersection has seen more than its fair share of accidents, some of which I've seen the aftermath of myself.

In an effort to slow people down who are going too fast on Route 202 and make them pay attention, the Maine DOT finally put the traffic light up after announcing plans to do so back in April of 2019. The problem is, someone screwed it up.

According to the Portland Press Herald, one of the contractors hired by the Maine DOT installed "inadequate components." What's that mean? Well, we don't know really. Whatever it is, I guess it's important enough to need to replace the mystery components,  which won't be completed until Feb 1. The wait continues.

In the meantime, if you're driving on Route 202 or Falmouth road, use caution when approaching this intersection. The traffic moves much faster than it should and people tend to run the stop signs on Falmouth Road. Slow down and be prepared to stop.
