Abenaki Tower on Lake Winnipesaukee is Best NH Fall Hike for Kids

With fall foliage just about to peak, it's time to plan your quick hikes to see the best foliage possible this fall.

Who says you can't be a tourist in your own neck of the woods?

The Abenaki Tower trail is a perfect small "hike" for families, kids, dogs, or anyone looking to see some foliage in New Hampshire.

The trail itself is only 0.3 miles out and back. That does not include climbing the tower. That is just the prize at the end.

According to the New Hampshire Family Hikes Description:

The unique wooden structure of the Abenaki Tower is a local attraction with nice lake views available at minimal effort. It is well worth the five minute walk on a graded dirt path to get to it. This public lookout tower has a storied history which can be explored in detail on the tower's website. From the enclosed wooden cab at the top, visitors enjoy views of Lake Winnipesaukee and the Belknap Range, which have been improved in recent years by tree clearing.

One of the reasons many locals do not "leaf peep" is because of time; the time to travel, the time to get the family ready, and of course, the time to do an actual hike.

This 0.3-mile dirt trial solves this issue. You can do a short hike with your kids and still have time to explore the Lakes region, Lake Winnipesaukee, or whatever else you have on the docket that day.

The parking area and trailhead are located on Rt. 109 in Tuftonboro, New Hampshire, 0.9 miles south of its junction with Rt. 109A, according to NH Family Hikes. The large parking area is on the east side of the road and is well-signed.
