Books-A-Million on Bangor Mall Boulevard in Bangor may not have the kind of traffic in the mall area that it used to have, but that doesn't mean that it hasn't seen new visitors lately.

Such is the case of what was shared on Facebook a few days ago from the business in the mall area. Check out this turtle who has found a safe place near the bookstore to lay her eggs. As you can see in the picture, a section of ground has been taped off as to warn people to stay away from that location so the soon-to-be baby turtles can carry on with growing and hatching.

Cones, tape and a very thoughtful and cute sign are making sure these baby turtles are able to remain undisturbed by human being and predators while they incubate. The sign put next to the coned off/taped off area is one made by a very thoughtful human, hand drawn with effort put into the message- 'Turtles in progress. Please do not disturb.'

She looks to be a snapping turtle, which is a common specie of turtle here in Maine. According to information on the Harpswell Heritage Land Trust.org website, this pretty lady probably laid 20-50 eggs near the BAM building. Now, Bangor BAM owners, employees and visitors will need to stay away from the area for 9 to 18 weeks while the eggs incubate.

Hopefully, predators like fox, raccoons and crows will stay away from the eggs so we can see the next generation of snappers in Bangor.
