For 8 years, people who live and travel through Bethel, Maine have driven past a closed amusement park on North Road off Route 2. That all changed in June when Big Adventure Center opened once again.

Big Adventure Center originally offered mini-golf, laser tag, rock climbing, bowling, an arcade and a water slide. In the 2000s, kids in a small town like Bethel didn't really have a lot to do, and the Big Adventure Center became the place to go hang out with friends and family.

In the years since its closing, Big Adventure Center got the attention of several YouTube content creators who explore abandoned places and the water slide was a big draw for them. A quick search on YouTube turned up over a dozen videos of people walking through the property with cameras in hand.

Big Adventure Center is back now thanks to owner and operator Paul Legault, who also manages the 1888 Wedding Barn near Sunday River. With a lot of hard work, he is slowly bringing Big Adventure Center Back from the dead, one piece at a time. The golf course has been cleaned up, repairs have been made and a new ice cream shop had been added.

Big Adventure Center is now open for mini-golf Wednesday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Big Adventure Center Scoops is serving ice cream Wednesday through Sunday 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. More is planned over the next few years, including the rock climbing arena and indoor mini-golf.

Take a look at some photos of the work that has been done to get Big Adventure Center back up and running.
