Aldi would be occupying the space left behind by Big Lots at the Pine Tree Shopping Center in Portland.
Anticipation has been building for months with the belief that Aldi would complete the proper permitting and be open by October or November of 2025.
That seems highly unlikely to be happening.

In order for Aldi to execute their store plans and get up to proper code, the chain had to completely blow out the front facade of the building.
As you can see from this photo taken on October 14, Aldi has significant work still needed to be done out the exterior and interior of the building before passing final inspections to open their new Maine location.
