Maine's deer population is healthy. According to state biologists, Maine's deer population was estimated at between 230,000 and 250,000 deer. Some quick, rough math shows that there is one deer for about every 5 people in Maine.

That number has prompted the state to give out the most any-deer hunting permits in history to help control the herd.

From my observations, it sounds like there's a lot of truth to that. It was always rare that I saw deer in daylight, but I've spotted deer on the side of the road five times in the past month. People are seeing them everywhere and posting photos on social media like Keoka Beach Campground in Waterford did this morning.

Have you spotted any deer in the daytime. Got a picture? Share it with us on our Facebook page or by using our app.
