Are You a Nerd? There’s a New Place for You at the Auburn Mall
There's a fine line between being labeled a "nerd" or a "geek." That may come as a surprise to most people, but two terms aren't 100% interchangeable.
According to Big Think, a geek is an enthusiast about something. I'm a pinball enthusiast and many pinball enthusiasts collect dozens of pinball machines. They would be considered geeks.
Nerds, on the other hand, are intellectuals in a particular topic or field, and rather than being collection oriented, they are achievement oriented, gaining knowledge and skill over trivia and memorabilia.
No matter if you're a nerd or a geek, you probably are going to enjoy a new store that opened in mid-March at the Auburn Mall called Nerdcore.
According to their Facebook, Nerdcore specializes in music, especially vinyl records, books, novelties, oddities and all things nerdy.
Want to play Settlers of Catan? They've got that. Want to sing "You're the Inspiration" to a vinyl copy of Chicago 17, they've got that. Guster on vinyl? They've got that. Dice from six-sided to twenty-sided? They've got that.
According to the"about" section of their Facebook page they are women-owned, LGBTQ+ owned, and disabled-owned, so as every business should, they have no tolerance for hate groups. Sound like this is a safe place for all nerds.
Nercore is at the Auburn Mall and is open Tuesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and closed on Sunday and Monday.
This nerd would love to find himself a copy of the hard-to-find Dark Tower, an electronic board game I had in the early 1980s and that no one would play with me, just like Dungeons & Dragons.
