
Aroma Joe’s to Open Old Port Location in Portland, Maine
Fans of coffee and energy drinks can officially rejoice because another well-known chain is going to try their hand in Portland's Old Port.
According to Portland Old Port, Aroma Joe's is planning to open a new Old Port location in Portland, Maine, at 1 Exchange Street.
Aroma Joe's has been expanding rapidly in recent years. Last year, the coffee and drink chain opened nearly a dozen new locations across Maine.
In 2026, they've already opened a new standalone location near Costco in Scarborough with more new openings planned including in the Old Port.
Aroma Joe's Replaces the Longstanding City Beverage Store in Portland, Maine
When Aroma Joe's completes the transformation at 1 Exchange Street in Portland, Maine, it's going to feel a lot different.
One of the last beacons of the "old" Old Port was a handwritten sign in front of City Beverage that read "BEER WINE LOTTO CIGS".
The convenience store closed last year following the death of Joe Soley and has remained vacant since.
Other Coffee Chains Have Closed Old Port Locations in Recent Years
It's been an odd happenstance for well-known coffee brands in Portland's Old Port over the last decade.
Now Cheese Louise, a Dunkin' location at 363 Fore Street was consistently busy until it closed rather abruptly. That closure was based on labor shortages.
About three years ago, a regularly busy Starbucks location at 191 Middle Street also closed under murky circumstances involving employees attempting to unionize.
There is no grand opening date set for Aroma Joe's in Portland's Old Port as of this writing.
