One of the Best Places in the World to Visit During December is in Maine

'Tis the season for many national publications to ask their travel experts to list off the best places to visit across the globe for the holidays.

Typically, Maine will make many of these lists, And almost always, Kennebunkport will be the choice of the experts thanks to travelers having fallen in love with the Prelude celebration.

But when Good Housekeeping released their list of 24 places around the globe to visit this December, they went in a different direction. Instead of Kennebunkport, Good Housekeeping is directing travelers to take a look at a nearby city instead, Biddeford.

Biddeford's reputation has certainly changed in the last 10 to 15 years. Biddeford's downtown district has seen a ton of new businesses open. With the mills rehabbed and the downtown bright with decorations, Good Housekeeping referred to it as a downtown that gives off "Hallmark movie vibes".

Beyond the Hallmark reference, Good Housekeeping put the spotlight on some of the places and events that truly makes Biddeford a destination around the holidays.

No trip to Biddeford would be complete without visiting the iconic Palace Diner. The oldest diner in Maine is still cranking out great food and the battle for a bar stool is proof of it. Good Housekeeping is also in love with the Lincoln Hotel. It's a swanky spot filled with Christmas cheer and a cozy fireplace.

But there's also the downtown celebrations. Biddeford will hold their Merry and Bright Night on December 6 this year. There will be Christmas carolers, games and other performances, a visit from Santa Claus as well as a tree lighting.
