It's almost hard to believe that it has been over a decade since the Big Easy nightclub and concert hall in Portland, Maine, closed for good. The cozy underground spot on Market Street was a haven for local musicians, smaller tours, or themed nights.

When the Big Easy closed in 2013, real estate experts figured the space wouldn't be vacant for long. Despite its size limitations, it was in a prime location for both professionals as well as those simply walking through the city of Portland.

That has never been the case, though. The Big Easy has sat vacant, almost like it fossil of the past that was being preserved. That will change soon enough, because there is something new moving into that vacated space. And if the owners have their way, it will be something Portland has never seen before.

According to Portland Food Map, a new sports bar will take over the Big Easy space on Market Street. It will be called Oddfellahs, with the owners hoping to capture some of the sports crowd void left behind by the closure of both Binga's Stadium and Rivalries in recent years.

But that will come with a twist. Oddfellahs is hoping to become a live-better sports parlor as well. It would be the first of its kind in Portland, Maine, that isn't set in stone as of right now. The sports bar will need apply with the State of Maine and negotiate with the Wabanaki tribe before it gets the green light.

The Portland City Council has approved OddFellahs' liquor license, which means the sports bar is a go for the not-too-distant future. Stay tuned on whether the live betting follows.
