One of the Most Charming Towns in America is Right in Midcoast Maine
One of Midcoast Maine's popular Seacoast spots has been ranked as one of the nation's best.
In fact, it was named the second most charming town in America by the popular travel site Love Exploring. Talk about some bragging rights. Of course, I'm talking about the town of Camden, a popular spot for both locals and tourists alike.
Camden is unquestionably charming. The town is situated right on Maine's iconic coast. It features a stunning harbor filled with old schooners, fishing boats, pleasure cruisers, and windjammers. The waterfront is also full of restaurants that will not only blow you away with taste, but also "wow" you with incredible views of Penobscot Bay and Curtis Island Light.
Just above the waterfront is the main drag that perfectly encapsulates everything to love about a small Maine village. The main street is always bustling with life, and for good reason. It's a cornucopia of small shops, charming inns, and eateries.
Speaking of inns, Camden might be Maine's number one spot for bed & breakfasts. It seems that every large, historic house has been converted into an amazing B&B. This includes an actual castle that you can stay in. If this doesn't scream "charming," I'm not sure what does.
As wonderful as the village and waterfront is, there's another spot in town that might take the cake for beauty. Literally minutes away from the downtown is the entrance to Camden Hills State Park, the home to Mount Battie. The summit is an easy hike. However, an auto road to the top also exists in case the hike isn't in the cards. The views from the summit are some of the best in Maine. It's a spectacular sight that showcases Camden and the bay.
But don't just take my word for it. Here is a little from Love Exploring on why it chose Camden as one of the most charming small towns in America.
Nicknamed the ‘Jewel of the Maine Coast’, Camden is a quintessential seaside town with a charming harbor, an old lighthouse, jagged rock bays and the opportunity for sunset cruises.
Honestly, Love Exploring hit a home run with this selection. While there are many charming towns nationwide, most don't compare to this special little place. It truly is a perfect representation of all that is wonderful about Maine.
The only town to finish ahead of Camden on this list comes from the other coast in America. Love Exploring's number one pick was the wine town of St. Helena, California. You can check out the entire list here.
This is great publicity for Camden, a town that continues to grow in popularity from both Mainers and tourists alike.
