Check Your License Plate To Be Sure You Won’t Be Stopped

Police are giving drivers a friendly reminder that their license plate might be sticking out like a sore thumb.

It's a brand new year which means if you haven't registered your car within the past month, you might as well be driving around with a sign that says "Pull me over."

The State of Maine issues registration stickers for license plates that are color coded.  The year stickers change color every year. 2019 was orange and 2020 is white. That means if your vehicle registration expired in 2019 and you have yet to renew it, you are easily spotted by police because ALL orange stickers are overdue at this point.

In fact, while waiting in traffic today on Forest Avenue, I saw the cars in the two lanes in front of me at the light and one parked on the side of the street with orange 2019 stickers. One went as far back as September.

Take your chances if you want to, but the Belfast Police Department wanted to remind everyone that these expired plates are very easy to spot and your chances of getting stopped for an overdue registration probably have increased by a lot!
