How I Got Here & Why I Stayed at Townsquare Media

As someone with a strong emphasis on having a high quality of life, I never pictured myself working in an office. I dabbled in cubicle life in college to check the box off and say I gave it my best shot but I knew it wasn’t something I was going to pursue within a career.

When I got the email from Townsquare Media, I figured one interview wouldn’t kill me. What I expected to be a classic dry back-and-forth business interaction turned out to be a stimulating conversation that had me refreshing my email every 5 minutes in hopes of moving forward with the team.

I had applied for an account manager position, which was very unlike me. The vice president of sales immediately knew, just by looking at my resume and having one conversation with me, that I was a creative person who needed an entirely different role, one that was individualized to me, my needs, and my interests.

Rather than finding a person to fit the role, they created a role to fit the person.

Townsquare Media Is Not Your Typical Office

I was interested after meeting the vice president of sales and the director of content, but I was convinced after visiting the office.

Resting right in the heart of Portland, Townsquare Media is really in the town’s square - Monument Square, to be exact. Surrounded by parks, galleries, restaurants, and buzzing with Portlander pedestrians, I was energized by the thought of this being where I could spend my days and be paid to do so.

Inside you’ll find a not-your-average office. The walls are plastered with album covers, vinyl records, and signed music posters from artists old and new. Tucked into different corners are studios where your favorite radio stations are recorded and broadcast live.

Townsquare Media Northern New England also has offices in Augusta, Maine, and Dover, New Hampshire.

And of course, we can’t forget the view from the Portland, Maine, office patio, where triumphs are celebrated and morale is boosted with a team breakfast (and maybe even some people-watching).

Townsquare Media Culture Puts the People First

As someone with a strong emphasis on having a high quality of life, there’s a reason I’m working in this office. The leaders of the team orchestrated an entirely new role just to optimize my personal skill set, treat me with the utmost respect, present assignments that they know I will enjoy, and I get to work from an invigorating office and from home when I please. (Yes - the gig is hybrid!)

And I’m not the only one that feels this way. As shared by Caitlin, an account manager who started the same day as me, “the culture [at Townsquare Media] is people-first, and I have all the resources and technology I need to do my job in the office, or at home. My expectations have been exceeded on what a work-life balance should be!”

I never imagined finding a “9-5” that would stimulate me along with a beautiful balance of work and play. Sure, it’s “work”, but I have an extra pep in my step when I’m starting the day and I don’t know many people who head into an office feeling that way.
