Courtney Love Blew Through $27 Million of ‘Nirvana Money’ After Kurt Cobain Died
When you think of responsible financial decision-making, Courtney Love definitely shouldn't come to mind -- but this is a little staggering even for her. The Hole frontwoman recently told Australia's Sunday Style that following the 1994 suicide of her late husband, Kurt Cobain, she spent upward of $27 million of what she called "Nirvana money" -- mostly to settle a bunch of lawsuits.
"I know that's a lifetime of money to most people," she said. "But I'm a big girl, it's rock 'n' roll, it's Nirvana money, I had to let it go."
She also went on to discuss her current docket of pending lawsuits -- mostly regarding libel. Earlier this year, she won a case against her former lawyer who sought damages after Love tweeted that the attorney had been "bought off" in a fraud case against the executors of Cobain's estate. A judge said Love didn't actively seek to promote false information and ruled in her favor after an eight-day trial.
