Winter activities seem to be popping up everywhere, especially in a time where everyone is looking for stuff to do. One of the newer local attractions is the ice rink outside LL Bean's flagship store in Freeport.

To say it's been a hit is an understatement.

LL Bean has already announced it will be keeping its ice rink up through March. The synthetic rink was the hot spot during the holiday months, so it's to no surprise to see the rink get extended.

This is the first year of the LL Bean rink, and it clearly has been a smashing success. The rink is free for anyone who wants to skate, with a limit of 40 at a time.

While I'm by no means an ice skater, I absolutely adore this. Creating another opportunity for people to enjoy a fun family-friendly activity. And there's nothing more that fits the winter mood than a nice skating session outdoors.

And, yes, there are heated benches. LL Bean thought of everything.

It's also downright good marketing. LL Bean is in the ultracompetitive outfitter category. Attractions like this help separate the brand from others. LL Bean is also no stranger to getting creative. The store is open 24/7 and features a trout pond. They host outdoor concerts and the entire village of Freeport is kind of like LL Bean Lite. So, why not an ice rink?

LL Bean also highlights other deals and adventures they have this winter, including free snow tubing at Bradbury Mountain in Pownal, and free snowshoe and Nordic skiing at Fogg Farm in Freeport.
