Remember last November's election? I do, too. The results were clear: the people of Maine voted to approve the creation of a "Ranked Choice Voting" system. The new way of electing state officials is designed so that the winners of elections receive the support of more voters. There's a great great explanation of ranked choice voting in the video at the bottom of this post. Check it out.

So, what's the problem? According to WCSH6, the Republican members of the Maine State Senate are asking the Maine Supreme Court to decide the constitutionality of ranked choice voting in Maine. They argue that it violates the Maine constitution, and should be stopped, even though the people of Maine already passed it in a statewide referendum at the ballot box.

The Maine Supreme Court is expected to take several weeks to make a decision.
