Extremely Popular Maine Food Truck Will Not Serve Food In 2023
One of the great things about food trucks in the 21st century is the variety of foods they serve up. These days, food trucks are about way more than chicken tenders and french fries.
Maine food trucks are serving up everything from tacos, to wood-fired pizza, to gourmet mac-n-cheese, to fresh donuts. Yes, of course, you can still find food trucks that serve burgers, fries, and chicken tenders!
In the spring and summer of 2022, food truck lovers in the Augusta area had a chance to get authentic shawarma from the Shawarma Express food truck.
What is shawarma?
According to Wikipedia, shawarma is meat (generally chicken, turkey, beef, or lamb) that is roasted on a rotating spit. As it spins, the meat is shaved off in thin slices. It is often then made into a wrap using pita bread.
It is one of the most popular street foods in the world.
The name is an Arabic take off of a Turkish word meaning "turning". In this case, it refers to the spinning of the rotisserie spit.
Sadly, the Shawarma Express team announced on Facebook that their extremely popular food truck will not be opening in 2023. Actually, it sounds as though the food truck may have been too popular. It may have been so popular that they are moving beyond the food truck concept.
The Facebook post says, in part:
Please rest assured that this is not the end of Shawarma Express. We have been working tirelessly to develop and grow into something bigger. Please stay on the lookout for updates by following our social media accounts! New announcements coming soon!!

We wish them well with whatever they are planning and hope that they will soon be serving up the shawarma and falafel.
