Former Maine Mall Pier 1 Store to Become COVID-19 Vaccination Site

There have been several stores at the Maine Mall that have closed up shop since 2020. Now one vacant store at the Maine Mall is going to be used as a COVID-19 vaccination site.

The former Pier 1 store closed at the Maine Mall after the company filed for bankruptcy in 2020 citing the COVID-19 pandemic as a major reason for the closing. Ironically, that space is now going to be used to combat the pandemic.

According to News Center Maine, Northern Light Homecare and Hospice will be opening a vaccine clinic in the former Pier 1 location on March 3. Pier 1 was in its own building on Maine Mall property near the food court entrance. It seems to reason that having a seperate space strictly for vaccinations rather than people having to walk through the mall was considered when choosing a site.

The planned opening of the new vaccination clinic coincides with the date that Maine will adopt an age-based approach to expanding vaccine eligibility. On March 3, those 60 years and older are eligible to be vaccinated.

If you plan to get vaccinated, you'll need to bring a form of identification that confirms your age, your insurance card if you have one, and you must register in advance to receive a vaccination.
