Bassist Robbie Merrill: “We wanted to give back to the community. We're from this area."

Last week, New England's most successful rock band of the last 25 years gave back to their community. Godsmack were in the Granite State to film video for their latest song "Unforgettable." In the past, the band has filmed local. For example, scenes from 1999's "Voodoo" were filmed in Lexington, Mass. However, this time, the band were on a different mission.

According to their Facebook page, filming the video was part of their quest to support local music students. First, singer Sully Erna spoke to middle school students last Friday about his life, the challenges, blending in, how music saved him, and encouraging young musicians.

Next, the band used the SNHU Arena to film the video, and also gave more than 300 students a music lesson in playing the song. Previously, they invited students from Derry's Gilbert H. Hood Middle School to record the song.

Bass player Robbie Merrill told WMUR News 9 “It's a memory that they're going to have for the rest of their life.”
