This is good news for some Loyal Companion customers.

Last week Loyal Companion said on their website and Facebook that they were closing all locations, including the 8 here in Maine. But now the Bangor Daily News reports that half the stores in Southern Maine will stay open under a new owner.

All 8 locations were to close at the end of February, but a sign in the North Windham store said they were staying open! The sign said,

As of 2/7 we are no longer closing this location. We were purchased along with 10 other locations and will continue to operate. Loyal Companion rewards and gift cards will be valid until 2/28/2023. We anticipate many changes but we have NO information to share with you. We thank you for your patronage and concern. When we have more information we will share it. Thank you from team Windham.

There's no word on the locations that will stay open, but the Press Herald did report initially that two customers outside the Saco location said that employees told them that they were bought by some other company and will stay open. That's how the Bangor Daily News found out that four stores are staying open in southern Maine and the other are in New Hampshire.

Independent Pet Partners of Woodbury, Minnesota, is the parent company that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. They own 160 pet stores under different names including Loyal Companion. They said the bankruptcy was caused by customers moving away from grain-free dog food and COVID-19. They said that they would try to sell some stores and apparently that happened. Stay tuned!
