It may be a mild fall so far in New England but make no mistake about it, old man winter is on its way and all indications are that the cost to heat our homes and businesses in the upcoming winter of 2021-2022 is going to cost more, a lot more!

According to the State of Maine Governor's Energy Office, the retail heating prices for heating oil, natural gas, kerosene, propane, and even electricity are on the rise compared to last year.

The U.S. Energy Administration is indicating that we are at or very close to multiyear highs when it comes to energy costs for the upcoming winter season. A 30% increase in the cost of natural gas is expected, a 43% price bump on heating oil.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting a colder winter this year based on extended forecasts so the best defense is to prepare and hope for the best. For those able to heat with wood, there lies the best value.

As for me, wake me up in the spring, I'm going to give hibernation a try, maybe bears are wiser than we give them credit for.
