Each and every winter, piles of people pile into ski areas across the state of Maine to enjoy piles of snow.

There are some ski areas in the state that are world famous, like Sugarloaf and Sunday River. But there's also a slew of other smaller ski areas that attract thousands of people each season as a more relaxed way to enjoy some winter fun.

But for one of those relaxed ski mountains, the end appears to be near.

The small mountain has been a locals favorite since it opened more than 60 years ago, in 1964.

Over the years, ownership has changed hands multiple times, adding new features like night skiing to a tubing hill and a brand new ski lodge.

Despite those improvements, operating a seasonal business in Maine has its challenges. Especially with considerable snow and cold in Maine becoming less consistent.

Hermon Mountain Ski Area Still Looking For New Owners

The current ownership has been ready to move on for years and haven't hid that fact.

Hermon Mountain Ski Area has been for sale since 2022. Without a new owner focused on keeping it a ski mountain, the current ownership would be prepared to liquidate their equipment and sell the vast area to developers.

For the right now, Hermon Mountain Ski Area plans to operate normally for one final season under its current ownership. After that, it's anyone's guess.
