Home Heating Oil Prices in Maine Approaching Record Highs

Another summer of cranking the air conditioner is behind us in the state of Maine. Cooler temperatures, specifically at night, have arrived as the changing of the seasons is on the horizon.

For many, filling their tank with heating oil in the summer is an afterthought. But when temperatures begin to plummet, ensuring that the heat can snap on becomes vital.

Unfortunately for those that use oil to heat their homes, Maine is on the precipice of setting a record for prices per gallon. And that is bringing added stress to the forthcoming winter season.

Statewide Average Record High For Heating Oil in Maine Could Be Broken

According to Maine Public, Maine is the most heating oil dependent state in the entire nation. And given the currently global political climate, there does not seem to be any drastic change to prices coming any time soon.

According to WGME, Maine set a statewide record for price per gallon on heating oil back in May of 2022. The spike is prices came due to the Russia and Ukraine conflict overseas.

But the timing for those that rely on heating oil here in Maine was ok. People were facing down 3-4 months of extreme cold day and night.

Maine Heating Oil Prices Could Top Six Dollars Per Gallon In The Coming Weeks

If you take a look at the current prices through Maine Oil, you'll notice that the statewide record for price per gallon set in 2022 in likely to fall in the coming weeks.

The NEADA predicts the average household in Maine will spend around $2,300 on home heating oil this coming winter. That would be a 31% increase from last year.

Unless significant developments overseas take place, Maine can expect to see prices exceed $6 per gallon for home heating oil in the coming weeks.
