Iconic Maine Mountain One of the Best Places to Watch the Sunrise
A legendary Maine mountain is receiving national praise, and it really shouldn't be a surprise.
The popular travel site USA Summer Camp released an article listing the best places in America to watch the sunrise. The second location mentioned is Acadia National Park's Cadillac Mountain. In other news, water is wet.
The popular coastal mountain is a hotbed of tourist activity, especially right before the sun comes up for the day. It's an ideal location for early birds to watch an amazing sunrise over the bay and park. It's also one of the first places on the continental United States to see the day begin (technically Lubec and Mars Hill also can claim to be the first to see the sunrise. It all depends on the time of year).
Standing over 1,500 feet tall, Cadillac Mountain is the highest peak in not just Acadia, but all of Hancock County. The summit road is actually so popular that drivers must reserve a pass to actually make the drive up. However, there's also the old-fashioned way of simply hiking the thing. There are numerous trails with varying skill levels that hikers can take advantage of if driving isn't your thing.
Here's a little of why USA Summer Camp chose Cadillac Mountain to be on its list.
From the top of the mountain – more than 1,530 ft up – you’ll also get a stunning view of the Atlantic as well as vast, rugged coastline. Cadillac Mountain really is one of the best sunrise spots in America. It’s well worth a visit!
Cadillac Mountain is joined by some other iconic locations on this list. The Grand Canyon, Yosemite Valley, Washington D.C. (wait, what?), and Hatteras, North Carolina.
Once again, Maine is the only New England state represented. I guess that means we are still the best up here. Shocker.
Interested in seeing the sun rise on Cadillac Mountain? I suggest checking out Acadia's website to get all the details on how to reserve a car or to check out the trails.
Happy sightseeing.
