Is Krispy Kreme Donuts Finally Back in New England?
There was a brief wave of excitement when rumor had it that Krispy Kreme Donuts was back in Boston. Oh, how I loved my stops at the Prudential Center in the Back Bay for a glazed or three. And of course, Saco, Maine, was another popular location that saddened so many when it closed, leaving New England Krispy Kreme-free.
It was an odd rumor to hear of the business' return while people were walking around with Krispy Kreme boxes, because the big question was: 'where was the hoopla about its return to New England, and where exactly is the store?'
I should preface this by saying that there technically is a Krispy Kreme still in New England. However, it's inside the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, so it's hard to count that one. It's not a location you can just visit because you're craving a Krispy Kreme donut.
Anyway, according to Only in Bos, Krispy Kreme isn't back in the Boston area. That said, WBZ News Boston says it could still happen, as Krispy Kreme has referenced a return with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
But it was these photos from Only in Bos that proved this was not a return of Krispy Kreme, even though this guy is apparently selling them and Bostonians are buying them. I'm not sure what's really in the boxes, and maybe they really are Krispy Kreme brought back from Mohegan Sun.
Either way, it's not back yet, but let's keep our fingers crossed.
