I guess I’m just biased as hell because when I think of Maine, I just think of genuine contentment. We’re known as “Vacationland” for a reason! This is the land of vacation vibes, baby.

Our diverse landscapes, culinary masterpieces, fairly friendly attitudes, and quaint, charming little towns make for some happy places, in my opinion.

Apparently not.

2022 Happiest States in America

The financial website WalletHub recently did an analysis on the happiest states to live in our country and Maine didn’t even make the cut for the top 20; We barely even made it in the top 50%.

“Happiness” was determined by environmental factors linked to overall well-being and satisfaction through 30 key indicators with data sets ranging from the depression rate, how productive people feel, income growth, employment rate, you get it.

Maine made it on the list at No. 24 and I am not impressed.

Just the natural beauty of our state alone should make people happy but of course, it’s way more complex than that. You can check out the whole methodology used here.

So, who did make the top 10 list? These guys:

  1. Hawaii
  2. Maryland
  3. Minnesota
  4. Utah
  5. New Jersey
  6. Idaho
  7. California
  8. Illinois
  9. Nebraska
  10. Connecticut

Now, I’m not here to judge but Maryland? Idaho? NEBRASKA???

Our neighbors did make it higher on the list than us with Massachusetts making it in at No. 14 and New Hampshire right behind at No. 15.

Where Maine did rank high was in safety, which is certainly not a surprise. We came in hot at No. 2 for safety. That’s a good one, at least! I like feeling safe.

We may not have ranked too well on the list of happy states but I sure am happy to live here. I even left the state twice and made my way back.

Are you happy to live in Maine?
