We’re Pretty Sure This Pic Taken at a Maine Fort Shows a Ghost. What Do You Think?
Considering how long our state has been inhabited, it should not be a big surprise that Maine has a few well known ghost stories, like the haunting of Skowhegan's Strand Theater, the Herbert Grand Hotel in Kingfield, and Randolph's haunted trail, to name just a few.
Many of the most paranormally active spots in Maine are old military installations. Even though it has been hundreds of years since there was any major conflict in Maine, being stationed at the state's 18th and 19th-century installations was no walk in the park.
Located in Prospect, Fort Knox is a prime example.
Fort Knox
Not to be confused with the fort with all the gold, Maine's Fort Knox is located on the banks of the Penobscot River.
The fort was constructed between 1844 and 1869. The fort was named for Henry Knox, the first U.S. Secretary of War and Commander of Artillery during the Revolutionary War.
The fort was initially conceived during a time when we were still concerned about an invasion from the British. The mission of the fort was to prevent the British navy (or any other enemy navy), from getting to Bangor via the Penobscot River.
While it never saw battle, the fort was active during the U.S. Civil War and the Spanish-American War.
The fort was purchased by the State of Maine in the 1920s, and it has served as a historic site since 1943.
Does this photo really show a ghost?
Recently, Kim Carmean posted a photo that appears to show a ghostly figure in the Unexplained Maine Facebook group.
The photo, which was taken about 14 years ago, shows an empty granite-walled room. Well, almost an empty room.
Even though Kim says the room was completely empty when she took the picture, there appears to be a figure toward the right side of the photo.
Her post says, in part:
I Took this picture (about 14 years ago) in a empty dark room at fort knox in prospect maine. I only took it for the flash to light up the room. it was empty then saw this when i viewed it later that day.
Do you see it?
What do you see? Some commenters say they see a soldier carrying a rifle. Other people say they see a nurse in late-1800s clothing.
Personally, I think it looks a little like Elaine from Seinfeld. Yeah, I am pretty sure I am wrong about that.
What do you think it looks like, and do you think those green spots are dust or orbs?
