Popular Central Maine Restaurant Destroyed by Sunday Morning Fire

A well-known Damariscotta, Maine, restaurant was destroyed by an early Sunday morning fire.

According to an article on the WABI website, the Schooner Landing Restaurant & Marina, which overlooked the Damariscotta River, burned to the ground despite the best efforts of six local fire departments.

The fire, which started early Sunday morning, was finally extinguished at about 7:30 a.m. September 1.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire.

The Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce released a statement about the loss of the restaurant on their Facebook page.

The post read, in part:

It with deep sadness we share the news that beloved institution Schooner Landing has been destroyed by fire. We thank the six fire departments that tried to stop the blaze. Damariscotta, Newcastle, Bristol, Bremen, Waldoboro and Nobleboro , and the county strike team. Thankfully, there were no injuries.

The Facebook page seems to indicate that there may be fundraisers for the staff and owners in the near future.

The restaurant, which was loved by locals and visitors, was known for amazing seafood, much of which was caught locally, and nightly live music.

Their website says, in part:

The twin villages of Damariscotta and Newcastle offer all that a boater could ask for with Schooner Landing’s docking facilities and slips, their restaurant featuring local seafood, lobster rolls and Damariscotta River Oysters, and many gift shops and provisioners nearby.

The fire remains under investigation.
