Man Airlifted After Medical Emergency on Acadia’s Popular Trail
It was early Wednesday morning when the quiet of Acadia National Park was interrupted by a call for help. This took place in Acadia National Park.
According to WABI, a 58-year-old man was hiking on the advanced Beehive Trail when he suffered a medical emergency at the summit.
If you’ve never been on this specific trail, it is beautiful but also pretty advanced and challenging. There are steep cliffs and hard terrain.
The park rangers were pretty quick to respond. They had a 16-person team to rescue the man and coordinated with the MDI Search and Rescue, the news station reported.
However, even with all that help, the rugged terrain prevented them from being able to get to the man on foot and they had to call for back up.
WABI reported that The Maine Forest Service was dispatched and without the help of the helicopter, it could have been a different story.
The helicopter carefully airlifted the man out of the forest and transferred him to a nearby field close to Sand Beach, where an ambulance waited to rush him to a hospital in Bar Harbor, according to the news station.
Thanks to the swift teamwork of everyone involved, the man was safely transported for medical care.
