Who Dares to Conquer a 90-Degree Pitch on Knife Edge Trail in Maine?
If you’re a hiker who thrives on adrenaline and challenges, boy do I have the perfect pitch for you! It’s the Knife Edge Trail on Mount Katahdin, and it is calling your name, baby!
There is something so heart-pounding and thrilling about hiking a 90-degree pitch in Maine. This trail could be perfect for you, but it’s not for the faint of heart. This trial is advanced, and will promise an unforgettable adventure for those who dare to conquer it!
This mountain is said to be the crown jewel of Maine, or at least that's what one hiker has reported.
This hike brings to mind the book, Lost on a Mountain in Maine. The book highlights the journey that a Maine man took getting lost in the Katahdin Mountains as a child. The movie trailer has just been released! Check it out below!
The Knife Edge is a challenging 1.1-mile rock climb that connects Pamola Peak (which is 4.092 feet high) to Baxter Peak at 5,267 feet, according to Northeast Hikes.
The hike is known for its narrow, rocky path. It can feel narrow and tight, with steep drop-offs on either side, making it a thrilling but tough hike.
Yes, I have experienced this hike. And even though it's just a mile long, don't be fooled by the short distance. It can take you up to hours to hike this trail.
My favorite parts are the sharp drops on either side, and the sections that seem nearly standing straight up! You have to have some pretty fancy footwork to guide yourself carefully through. The super-steep inclines and rocky path make this trail one of the most challenging hikes in Maine!
