It’s Time For Maine Residents to Start Using All Green Porch Lights
Did you even realize that there are different meanings behind different colors of porch lights on Maine homes? Most of you probably did but, since I apparently live under a rock, I'm just learning about this.
And now, I've become an advocate for the color green.
You see, when it comes to porch lights, most people just have the yellow or white LED bulbs casting a bright wash of light onto their lawns, driveways and back decks, but it doesn't always have to be the same old same old.
Now before we dive into the meaning of the color green, let's take a look at what some other colors of light signify. Mainers who use blue porch lights are typically showing some love to our local law enforcement.
Similarly, those who are using red are showing the love to area firefighters and rescue personnel for their tireless service to keeping our communities and homes safe.
But what about when it comes to the color green?
Well, as it turns out, the color green is a show of support for the troops serving in the United States Military. And, with so many of our men and women deployed all around the world, I think it's a great way to show a little love.
According to an excerpt from the Association of The United States Army,
A green porch light is a symbol of appreciation for US military veterans. Though some people may leave a green porch light on year round to express their support, many choose to use this colored bulb around Veteran's Day, which is celebrated on November 11th and Memorial Day, which falls on the last Monday of May
So there it is. My case for using green porch lights on your home. Of course if you'd rather use a different colored light that means something special to you, I'm all for that as well. You can learn all about the different colors and what each one means by clicking right here.
