New Report Reveals the Best Gift Card to Buy in 2025

When you’re not sure what to get someone for the holidays, gift cards are always a solid option—but not all of them are created equally.

WalletHub determined its list of 2025’s Best Gift Cards by evaluating gift cards from the 50 most popular retailers across five key categories: popularity, buyer discounts, resale value, retailer ratings, and fees.

Each gift card was graded on a 100-point scale, with higher scores indicating a better overall value.

WalletHub analyzed everything from how often people search for a card online, to how big of a discount buyers can get, how much sellers can resell a $100 card for, how customers rate the retailer, and whether any shipping or purchase fees reduce the card’s value.

The Sephora Gift Card topped this year’s list with a score of 65 out of 100.

According to the report from WalletHub, Sephora gift cards ranked as the 4th most popular—unchanged from 2024, up two spots from 2023, and up eight from 2022. They also stood out for having no shipping or purchase fees, a 2.22% average buyer discount, an average resale value of $82.40, and a retailer rating of 2.54.

Topping the list as the most popular gift card for 2025 is the same one that led the way in both 2024 and 2023: the Visa Gift Card.

Following closely behind in popularity are the Amazon Gift Card in second place and the Target Gift Card in third.

And there you have it! Depending on what you’re looking for, a recent report shows that Visa gift cards are the most popular, while Sephora topped the list as the best overall.
