RentCafe’s report, ‘From Coast to Coast: Which Are the Most Livable Places in the U.S. in 2024?,’ evaluated cities using factors like healthcare access, social associations, food availability, arts and entertainment, and commute times.

RentCafe then grouped these indicators into three main categories: socioeconomics, quality of life, and location and community.

By organizing factors this way, the report aimed to give a well-rounded view of livability across different regions. The results highlight cities offering a high quality of life with accessible amenities and vibrant communities.

According to RentCafe and their report, ‘From Coast to Coast: Which Are the Most Livable Places in the U.S. in 2024?,’ Maine’s largest city, Portland, ranked at the very top as the most livable place in America for 2024. RentCafe had this to say about their choice:

With its mix of urban amenities and scenic natural landscapes, Portland, ME, metro area strikes that perfect balance between good living (#5 for quality of life) and “location, location, location” (#5 for location and community). It’s no wonder, then, that the metro area is this year’s reigning champion when it comes to livability. After all, what’s better than the aesthetic of a historic port area?
