People You Know
People watching and meeting up with friends and family is a pastime at Maine fairs. Everybody comes out to enjoy the entertainment. You have people attending the fair, kids riding the rides, farmers, 4-H and visitors from across the state and region. It’s one of the main reasons we all go.
Fair Food
Fair food is where it's at in Maine. The variety is amazing and you can get a little of everything. Maine offers unique foods like maple milkshakes and fresh Maine deep fried clams. The blueberries on the cheesecake are grown right in the state. A popular food truck seen at almost every location is Ye Olde English Fish & Chips. They have fresh Maine seafood that's out of this world. Don’t forget to grab a lobster roll too.
Farm Animals
You have to go see the farm animals. This is usually presented by the local 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA). The animals all have great personalities and you can see a variety all at once. They are there to compete for prizes and ribbons. One tour of the animal pens and you know you’re at a Maine fair.
Rides and Midway
One thing you’ll find at the fair are the rides and midway. Smokey’s Greater Shows is known throughout Maine for bringing the attractions to a town near you. The games are often new and updated and the classics still exist. The rides range from thrill-seekers to a nice casual spin around the Ferris wheel.
Fair Events
Maine has all kinds of events that are signatures of the state. At the Northern Maine Fair in Presque Isle, the car show is a featured attraction. It’s called Rods, Rides and Relics and is the biggest indoor car show in New England. These vintage and new vehicles have Maine plates and have spent many years on the backroads of the state.
