There’s just something about a good Maine downtown, right? Honestly, you find yourself strolling and feeling like you're on the set of a Hallmark movie.

Babe you can give me a walkable main street, cute shop I certainly didn't plan on going in, and a cute coffee and I'mhappy girl.

Maine has no shortage of gorgeous towns, but there are some downtowns that just have the vibe. You know what I mean.

The kind of place where you can park the car, start walking, and suddenly three hours have disappeared because you stopped for coffee, wandered into an antique shop, took 100 pictures of a pretty building and somehow ended up buying something you definitely did not need.

And honestly, choosing the “best” downtowns in Maine is basically asking for trouble.

13 Maine Downtowns Worth Getting Out of the Car For

So instead of me making this decision alone, we turned to Maine people and asked where they think you should go for a stroll, grab a bite, shop, explore or just spend an afternoon.

The responses gave us a pretty great list.

From the cozy charm of Camden and Boothbay Harbor, to the lively energy of Portland and Brunswick, there’s a little bit of everything here.

And yes, Lewiston made the list, because as someone who lives in the area, I will absolutely defend a good L/A afternoon.

But let me just say, the picturesque downtown of Dover, truly spoke to me and now I must visit.

And then there’s Cornish, which is a great reminder that you don't have to be directly on the coast to find a Maine downtown worth exploring.
