Mount Washington Will Light Up The Sky for a Powerful 9/11 Tribute

For generations now Mount Washington has been so much more than just our highest peak in New England.  

It's been that huge drop back to family vacations, road trips through the White Mountains, unforgettable sunrises, and memories shared across Maine and New Hampshire.

But this September, that mountain will become something even more meaningful for all of us.

Mount Washington Will Light the Sky in Honor of 9/11

From September 9 through September 12, beginning at 8 p.m. each evening, two powerful beams of light will rise from the summit of Mount Washington as part of The Honor Summit, commemorating the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

This impactful tribute honors the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the first responders who courageously answered the call, the military members who served in the years that followed, and those who continue serving us today. 

You won't need to climb the mountain to experience it.

In fact, some of the best views will be from locations east and west of Mount Washington, where the two beams will stand out against the night sky. 

Will you be able to see it in Portland, Maine? Yes, probably if the night is clear.

The Mount Washington Auto Road will not be open for viewing.

For many of us, Mount Washington is already a symbol of strength and resilience. Seeing those two lights stretching into the sky promises to be one of those unforgettable moments that brings people together in quiet reflection.
