7 Lisbon High School football players were suspended from the team on Wednesday, October 10, as the Lisbon School Department and an outside investigative agency continue to learn more about the alleged hazing incidents within the team.

In an email sent on Monday, Lisbon School Department Superintendent Richard Green informed the staff and parents of Lisbon High School students that all football-related activities have been suspended as of October 4, until further notice.

Since those involved are minors, Lisbon schools aren't at liberty to share any findings about the hazing allegations.

According to WMTW Channel 8, the seven players are only suspended from the team and not from school.

Superintendent Green explained what he could talk about in an email sent out to parents, staff, and students.

As a result of the seriousness of this matter and the fact that we want to protect and provide support for our student athletes, coaches and staff, the decision has been made to hire an outside agency to conduct a full investigation into this matter. This will not only generate a final report and recommendations, but this review will also help to determine if this is an isolated incident or part of a known “culture”. Although this additional investigation will take more time, we feel that it is necessary to help support and preserve the integrity and reputations of our student athletes, coaches and administrators.

Lisbon police Chief Ryan McGee told WMTW News 8 that the department is investigating a separate hazing incident and that he plans to bring the case to the Androscoggin County District Attorney's Office.

Superintendent Greene told WMTW News 8 that he couldn't speculate on whether the remainder of the Lisbon High School football team's season will be canceled.

As the current investigation continues, these games are on the schedule in the next few weeks, with Friday's game against Freeport already forfeited.
