October 2025 saw another shift in the Maine restaurant scene as several places, some open for a short period and some longstanding, closed their doors for good.

Like a changing of the seasons, these eateries marked their final chapters, each with their own story and following.

While news of these restaurants ending their run is sad, there's also a chance to appreciate the memories created and the food enjoyed while they were here.

What Maine Restaurants Closed in October 2025?

One place to close was the recently opened Leda. The Portland cafe, which opened in May 2025, revealed the heartbreaking news on Instagram.

"This space has been a dream built from love — a place to nurture connection, creativity, and care. Over these months, I’ve been endlessly grateful for every latte shared, every smoothie enjoyed, and every moment your little ones played and laughed here. Your support has meant everything," Leda's owner said in the social media post. "Unfortunately, the business has reached a point where it’s no longer financially sustainable in our current location, and it’s time for me to step back."

But as much as newer spots can struggle, longtime restaurants can also reach a point where they, too, must close their doors.

Local favorite Susan's Fish & Chips shared on Facebook on October 3 that it would be ending its run on October 30. The Portland seafood spot, which opened in 1989, noted that "the cost of products, the increase in wages and the overall costs make it very difficult" to keep running the business.

Naturally, there was an outpouring of response from customers remembering the good times and food they had over the years.

One person said, "This is the end of one of Portland’s FIRST famous-world class eateries- way before Portland was a foodie town! Thank you Susan!!!! You ever so quietly became a true pioneer in the Maine food scene. We celebrate your decades of hard work and significant contributions to our food loving city! Cheers! Enjoy retirement. Fish so fresh."

Another person said, "Another Maine staple gone. Thank you for all the memories and good food you’ve given over the years."
