Massachusetts Woman Wins Million Dollar Lottery Jackpot Twice
What are the odds? A Massachusetts woman won a million dollars on a state lottery ticket. Then, just 10 weeks later, she won a million dollars again!
According to a press release from the Massachusetts Lottery, Christine Wilson of Attleborough won a million dollars on an instant ticket, and did it again while playing the "100x Cash" $10 instant ticket game.
For her first win, she took a one-time payment of $650,000 before the government took its share, estimated at $156,000. She bought herself a new SUV, which we can only assume was without having to finance it.
For her second million-dollar win, she said she plans to put those winnings into savings. Very smart idea.
This, of course, is making people wonder. If the odds of winning a million dollars in the lottery are against you, how difficult is it to win a million dollars twice?
Well, there are a lot of variables, including how many tickets you buy. But even buying hundreds and hundreds of tickets doesn't increase your chances of winning by much.
To put this in perspective, we'll use the tried and true comparison to the odds of being struck by lightning, which is a lot more likely to happen to you than winning the lottery jackpot:
Odds of being struck by lightning in your lifetime: 1 in 15,300
Odds of winning a million dollars on a "Lifetime Millions" lottery ticket: 1 in 8,400,000
Odds of winning a million dollars on a "100x Cash" lottery ticket: 1 in 1,612,800
Odds of winning a million dollars on both tickets: Approximately 1 in 250,000,000
Good luck!
