The long-running competition series "Survivor" will embark on its 47th season when the show returns on Wednesday, September 18.

Can you believe it started all the way back in 2000?

Over the nearly 25 years the show has been on, people from all walks of life and places have competed to be the sole survivor, and once again, a New Englander has been cast in the game. Will they be someone to root for? Time will tell.

The brand new cast of 18 was revealed on September 4 with a YouTube video highlighting the players as well as cast photos.

The single New England player on the cast? Meet Solomon “Sol” Yi.

While the 43-year-old's hometown is Del City, Oklahoma, he is currently living in Norwalk, Connecticut, according to the official cast reveal video.

Yi is a medical device sales rep and a winning poker player. He said in the video that when he makes a move, he's not lying, just bluffing.

Guess we'll have to see how that plays out for him.

Entertainment Weekly did a short get-to-know-you interview with Yi, who revealed the reason he will be the sole survivor: "I have more than willpower. I have Sol Power."

It is surprising to see only one New England cast member on here, and especially not one from Massachusetts. Usually, at least someone is from The Bay State if not from Boston.

Just two seasons ago, Survivor 45 had five New England players.

Did you know that there are six New Englanders who have won "Survivor"?

  • Richard Hatch (Rhode Island) - Season 1
  • Ethan Zohn (Massachusetts) - Season 3
  • Sandra Diaz-Twine (Connecticut) - Season 7 and Season 20
  • Bob Crowley (Maine) - Season 17
  • "Boston Rob" Mariano (Massachusetts) - Season 22
  • Jeremy Collins (Massachusetts) - Season 31

Maybe Yi will add his name to that list soon.

Will you be watching the newest season of "Survivor"?
