3 Reasons Why Closing Sisters Gourmet Deli in Portland, Maine, Should Be Reconsidered
Mannnnn. I was hoping that this would never happen.
Hearing the news that Sisters Gourmet Deli in Monument Square is shutting its doors for good was such a disappointing day, I have a serious love for their sandwiches as I know many Mainers do, too.
The square is taking a major L on this one, but we also understand they have to do what's best for them as a business.
That doesn't mean we can't be upset about it though, so here are my favorite things about this place that also double as reasons I don't want to see them go.
I'm sure you'll relate to at least one of these if you're a local.
1. Being able to order a half sandwich is just one of the most genius things any sandwich shop can do. I always loved being able to walk over there around lunchtime and just get a quick half sandy, and it was always just enough to get you through to dinner time.
2. Their sandwiches are always made with literal love. If you know, you know, but every single time I've ever ordered one you can tell it was personally crafted. That's a rare quality, and in a weird way, it's always super comforting.
3. Sisters is like a hidden gem in the middle of the hustle and bustle of downtown Portland. The outside of their shop is always painted in cute pastel colors, and I always thought it added much-needed character to our downtown scene.
I'm going to miss the atmosphere the store front alone would create to outsiders. We'll miss you Sisters!
According to the Bangor Daily News, their doors close permanently on Monday, Oct 1, 2024. I beg that they'll reconsider it all because the locals will miss them dearly, but we understand!
