Remember When Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy Ignorantly Rated Slab Pizza in Portland, Maine?

Do you think Dave Portnoy put a bad luck curse on Maine? He was in town a while back reviewing some iconic pizza spots for what seemed like two weeks straight, and it's a good thing he chose Slab while he could.

One fact about this dude that we all know too well is that Portnoy only likes his certain style of crispy thin pizza to review.

However, there's sometimes a little crack in the door where he'll do a review of an out-of-pocket style of pizza.

Slab Sicilian Street Food was his out-of-pocket choice in 2023, and at least they can close their doors with that accomplishment under their belt.

If you haven't heard the news yet, sadly Slab is on track to be the next restaurant to close down in Portland.

Okay, firstly, I'm so saddened by this. Nothing beats the chewy yet crispy pizza (IYKYK) that Slab offered and I think I speak for many when I say I'll miss ordering a slice of pizza and receiving what felt like an entire pie.

When Dave visited Slab, on the One Bite scale he ranked it a 6.6. If you missed it, here's the episode:

Slab is the furthest thing from "fair" food, but I guess it depends how good you think fair food really is.

Fortunately for locals, Slab is still going to sell their frozen pizza throughout the state according to their Instagram post mentioned above. And according to portlandoldport, Slab's pizza just isn't gone forever!

"For those saddened by this news, Slab isn’t gone for good! You’ll still be able to find their frozen pizza at dozens of retail locations throughout the state. While an exact closing date hasn’t been announced, Slab’s time in Portland is coming to a close".
