Encountering Mainers can be a real interesting thing, depending on the angle you actually come across them from.

When you're from away and visiting Maine, whether coming from far away as a tourist for an extended stay, or even driving up from New Hampshire or even Massachusetts for a day in Portland, you get a small, very quick sample of what Mainers are actually like.

They all seem the same, they pretty much all seem super friendly and sweet with slight accents -- almost like you wish you could bottle their niceness and spread it around to the most grumpy people you know. They almost seem precious.

When you live in Maine, though, it's easy to see that not all Mainers are the same cookie cutter person.

And while many still are super friendly and sweet with slight accents described above, it's easy to see that there are definitely some with some spice to them, as well.

And it's even more noticeable when you being living in Maine after spending a good chunk of your life from away.

But, honestly, it's really all part of Maine's charm and what makes Maine -- like the signs on the Turnpike say -- "the way life should be."
