Dundee Park is situated on the Persumpscot River in Windham, and is where many people spend their summers enjoying the sun, having a picnic, and swimming at the beach with their loved ones. Unfortunately, the beach has been closed since beach season began, and now, it looks like it might not reopen before summer is over.

Like so many other projects, timetables aren't set in stone, and the completion date for the repairs to the dam and refilling of the pond keeps getting pushed back. The park has remained open, but its biggest draw (swimming in the pond) has been missing all summer long.

Now, news comes from the Town of Windham this week, revealing that Relevate Power has changed the estimate completion date of the dam repairs to August 31, just as kids are getting ready to back to school. But even then, it will still take another "few weeks" to refill the pond, and if everything goes well with the process, the pond will be back to normal in early October.

No one in Windham or the surrounding towns expected to be shut out of their summer ritual of enjoying a swim in the pond. The Town of Windham isn't too happy about it either, and you can almost hear their frustration in this Facebook post about the delay.

If there is any silver lining to this, it's the fact that next summer, to pond will be ready to go for a full season of swimming (we hope). Fingers crossed.
