Ah, yes, the dog. Man’s best friend. Good old Fido (has anyone ever met a Fido?) and Rover. Quite possibly the greatest living creatures on the planet this side of the domestic house cat (yeah, I said it).

Let’s face it: if you’re a dog lover, you already know exactly where I’m going with this. Dogs are simply incredible. They’re loyal, lovable, protective, playful, and always there when you need them. They bring an unmatched amount of joy into our lives while asking for very little in return—well, besides treats, belly rubs, unlimited food, and maybe half your bed.

Are Dogs Good for Your Health?

They can even help improve your health. According to the American Kennel Club, dogs can lower stress, improve heart health, promote a more active lifestyle, reduce loneliness, and even lessen the threat of allergies.

As you can probably tell, I’ve been a dog owner my entire life. Nothing but rescue dogs for life for this guy! But that doesn’t mean I don’t have affection for every breed out there.

What are the Most Popular Dog Breeds in Maine?

I was reading the other day that the Labrador Retriever is actually the most popular breed in Maine. It's not surprising – these canines are the perfect breed, especially for us Mainers. However, it got me thinking about what other dog breeds are popular here in Maine.

Thanks to our station's social media followers, I was able to put together a list of 30 different dog breeds that listeners selected as their favorites.

Some of these breeds are absolute number one draft picks, while others are a bit more surprising. One thing I know for sure is that there’s no wrong answer – every dog is equally awesome.
