Flurries Fly at Maine’s Saddleback Mountain: A Beautiful Sign for Ski Season
Wasn't it 80 degrees just two weeks ago? Well, guess what, it snowed over the weekend!
You think I'm lying? Check out this video from a live cam up on Saddleback Mountain Ski Resort.
Oh my goodness, that is absolutely gorgeous. Just look at those beautiful flakes falling down onto the iconic mountain. It's truly a sign of wonderful things to come for all the skiers out there.
Saddleback Mountain Has Had a Wonderful Resurgence
Saddleback is a massive mountain with a huge elevation and a killer expert section at the peak. The mountain is also known for its excellent beginner area. Plus, you can’t beat the views and surroundings—this region is simply one of the best in the state. It’s great to have this wonderful ski resort back on its game. It was terribly sad to see it shuttered for so long. Thankfully, it seems healthier than ever, with the latest owners investing in numerous projects such as more bike trails, new and improved lifts, and other mountain developments.
One of these projects is The Nest, a dining experience that sits at over 3,000 feet in elevation. All of this has helped Saddleback earn the title of Maine’s Best Ski Resort three years in a row, according to Down East magazine.
It’s great to see the flurries early in the year. It seems like Maine just doesn’t have the snowy seasons I remember. It would be superb if we got back to that this year, I’m sure the seasonal businesses wouldn’t complain either.
When are Maine's Ski Mountains Opening for the Season?
Speaking of snow, we’re certainly getting closer to opening weekend for Maine ski resorts, especially the big three: Saddleback, Sunday River, and Sugarloaf. For reference, Saddleback opened last year on December 6, while Sugarloaf has already set a tentative opening date of November 21. That’s less than a month away, so y'all better get those skis waxed!
