Some of you Mainers may not want to hear this, but guess what city was named a great spot to visit in the fall? And you all thought tourist season was over.

A hearty congratulations goes out to the city of Portland, which was named a wonderful destination during the fall months. The list was put together by the iconic Travel + Leisure Magazine and includes 21 cities perfect for fall. The cities on this list of some of the most popular in America, so to see Portland make the cut is quite special.

Some of the reasons Portland was listed include the vast amounts of fall foliage in and around the town, the outstanding food and fall festivals, and its general beauty. So, pretty much for all the reasons one would expect.

This really isn't a surprise to see Portland included on this prestigious list. Fall in Maine is like nowhere else. Crisp mornings, mild days, and cool nights make for the absolute perfect level of comfort. Not to mention that it's sweatshirt weather, which is a true Mainer's uniform. So, to be able to experience this perfect time of year in Maine's perfect big city is quite special.

Honestly, who wouldn't want to experience Portland this time of year? Think of all the wonderful restaurants utilizing fresh, local fall harvest ingredients. Or enjoying many of the festivals and fairs that are either in town or just a short drive away. Plus, it may still be tourist season, but it's nothing like how crazy it can get in the summer months. Talk about a perfect sounding vacation if you ask me.

To no surprise, Portland wasn't the only New England town to make Travel + Leisure's list. Also included were Boston and Providence. While both are very nice cities, they lack in the charm and character department. Quite honestly, I'm not sure there's another city that can claim that over Portland during this time of year.

Congratulations to Portland on this wonderful and very deserving recognition. It's always fun to see the rest of the country realizing how great we have it here, especially during this time of year.
