Too soon to make jokes about "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!"  Yes, it is.

Damn.

Henry VIII Carvery in Kittery, Maine is Closed

The announcement was made on the Henry VIII Carvery's Facebook page on February 1, 2025 stating that the next day, Groundhog Day, would be their last day with open doors.

Some of the comments they have received since the closing have been from big fans.  People have traveled a long way to get these sandwiches:

We are the crazy people that drive up from Rhode Island for a roast beef and then turn around and go back home lol we are sincerely going to miss you and we thank you for such having wonderful food and service and such friendly people

Henry VIII's Carvery was discovered by many (me included) just by their location, right on Route 1 in Kittery, Maine.  Here's what one person said on their Facebook page:

We stumbled upon your wonderful eatery while driving to Maine, taking a back route. Delish sandwiches, and was always appreciative of a gluten free bread option. Sad to see our favorite stop closing, but thank you and best wishes for future endeavors!

Not Looking for Seafood?  Henry VIII's Place Was a Great Alternative

My husband and I discovered Henry VIII's Carvery after a trip to Mid-Coast Maine to visit with family.  We had just had our fill of incredible seafood and was looking for something different.
There are tons of seafood restaurants on Route 1 in Maine, then we discovered Henry's.

This Sandwich Shop's Menu Was Extensive

When we walked in, the menu was a lot to take in.  Filled with roast beef and carved ham sandwiches with delicious toppings to please everyone. Yes, of course, they had gluten free options.
Vegetarian in the mix?  Henry made really lovely soups.  At last I remember, they had Hungarian Mushroom and Tuscan White Bean soups.  I wanted everything on the menu.

Also, side note:   remember this tune?  Me either, but my Mother used to sing it all the time.

I really hope that Henry VIII Carvery's head isn't gone for good.  Hopefully, someone will re-open with the same great menu.  We can dream, can't we?
