Talk about a gut punch!  It's already happening with our beloved Christmas Tree Shops shutting their doors for good around New England and now it's official that August 12th is the last day for good. Talk about coming out of nowhere for so many of us.  I mean, after all of the drama of changing their name to CTS all over the country, then updating the websites, and even streamlining the stores a bit, now we must bid farewell?

Apparently so, according to Boston 25 News, who says every single Christmas Tree Shop in New England is having a liquidation sale or has finished up.  Basically, what we see happening with Bed, Bath, and Beyond is where the Christmas Tree Shops are heading over the next few months.  They actually owned and operated our beloved stores from 2003 to 2020 before selling to Middleboro-based Handil Holdings, which has now defaulted on the loan.

The only way they can survive is if someone swoops in and buys the Christmas Tree Shops company and brand.

According to Boston 25 News, the new owner of the Christmas Tree Shops took out a $45 million bankruptcy loan in May, but creditors moved to terminate the loan after that company defaulted on the terms.  Unless a buyer emerges, Boston 25 News says we can all say farewell to this tradition that has graced us since the 1970s.

Like so many of you, I love walking through Christmas Tree Shops all year long for the incredible deals, fun and festive merchandise, and uniquely New England feel in the Massachusetts born-and-bred store that started on Cape Cod in 1970.  As a matter of fact, I believe that's the first location I ever went to.

Like I said, this is a pure gut punch to our New England lifestyle, so let's send out good vibes that a new owner emerges, and quickly.  Even if you just buy the ones in New England (pretty please?) and keep our tradition alive.
