Wanna Try Pickleball? Here Are 7 Courts Around the New Hampshire Seacoast
Remember back in the day when everyone was Sweatin' to the Oldies?
Or maybe you recall Suzanne Somers and her contraption, the Thighmaster.
And my favorite, The Shake Weight.
For me, pickleball has that sort of Sweatin'/Thighmaster/Shake Weight vibe to it, but I have to admit, I think I'm going to try it. If you want to join, there are many pickleball courts around New Hampshire, on the Seacoast, and throughout New England.
According to pickleheads.com, here are some courts. Many of these are inside, so you can play year-round.
- New England Pickleball in Rye, NH
- Exeter Area YMCA in Exeter, NH
- Newburyport Tennis Club in Newburyport, Massachusetts
- York Paddleboard and Pickleball Tennis Club in York, Maine
- Pickleball 603 in East Hampstead, New Hampshire
- Spinnaker Point Recreation Park in Portsmouth, NH
- Tuck Field at Eaton Park in Hampton, NH
There are many, many others, so if you don't see a place near you, check out pickleheads.com.
How Do You Play Pickleball?
There are a few rules, but the game doesn't seem hard. You serve the ball with a paddle to your opponent, and lobby it until someone misses. There's also a bunch of other rules, like how you can't bounce the ball in the "kitchen" when serving.
Everyone says that it's very easy to learn, and you can start playing within a few minutes of learning how the game works.
I wasn't convinced of the whole pickleball craze until my younger friends started playing on a regular basis. My friend Adam and his wife Alicia are on a pickleball league with T-shirts and everything. Then, my friend Kira next-door (KND for short) said she wanted to make pickleball part of her life on a regular basis.
